Tennesse Continuing Education Units - (TN CEUs)

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized & widely-used unit of measurement of involvement in continuing education (CE) programs or coursework.

One CE Unit is defined as 10 clockable hours (referred to as 10 contact hours) of direct interaction with an instructor (in traditional classroom, seminar, or online CEU formats) or engagement in preapproved program related activities. This does NOT include transportation time, breaks, or meals.

CEUs are not valid or transferable as an academic or collegiate credit.

Tennesse RN and LPN Continuing Education Unit Requirements

For RNs and LPNs in Tennesse, Continuing Education for relicensure is not mandatory. However, mandatory continuing competency is required in Tennessee. In order to maintain continued competence, the board requires the nurse to have practiced in nursing in the last five (5) years and additionally, the Board sets out standards of professional competence and requirements to maintain said competence.
