MSN programs in Massachusetts allow students to build on the education they received in their undergraduate degree and to take their careers to the next level. Graduates of these programs move on to become vital parts of the nursing world. With a master’s degree, on can qualify for higher paying, upper level jobs that were not previously available.
There are many MSN programs available in Massachusetts, both online and in a classroom. These programs offer different areas of study that students can choose to specialize in, as well as different timeframes for completion and curricula. It is important to evaluate all aspects of the various options and choose one that is best suited to one’s individual goals.
Online vs. Traditional Programs
Those who wish to complete an MSN can do so from home, through one of the many online programs available in Massachusetts, or on campus. Online programs offer a flexible schedule that nurses can personalize to fit individual needs. Classes and coursework can be completed 24 hours a day and seven days a week, and there is no travel required. On-campus programs allow students to have face-to-face contact with instructors and other graduate students, creating many networking opportunities.
Northeastern University offers the MSN from the Boston campus, and allows students to complete the MSN in a limited number of specialty areas online. The on-site BSN-MSN program that offers the following specialty areas: Nursing Administration, Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (Acute or Primary Care), Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (Acute or Primary Care), Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health. The curriculum for the program ranges from 67-87 credits, depending on the specialty area. There is also a Direct Entry Nursing MSN program that is offered online.
Kaplan University’s MSN program allows students to choose from many different areas of study. Those who graduate from this program can have a degree in Executive Leadership, Informatics, Adult NP, Family NP, or Nurse Education. The curriculums range from 65-100 credits, depending on the chosen track.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements vary by program, but students are often required to have a BSN from an accredited program with a 3.0 or higher GPA, and a valid RN license. Schools often require applicants to submit official transcripts, letters of recommendation, resumes, essays, and other documents.
