In order to become an RN by examination in California, an individual must:
- Pay the required fees
- Submit:
- An Application for Licensure by Examination
- Completed fingerprint cards
- A recent 2′ by 2′ passport photo
- A completed Request for Accommodation of Disabilities form (if necessary)
- Completed request for transcript forms and nursing school transcripts sent directly from the school that individual graduated

In order to become an RN by endorsement in California, an individual must:
- Pay the required fees
- Submit:
- An Application for Licensure by Endorsement including a US social security number
- Completed fingerprint cards
- A recent 2′ by 2′ passport photo
- Completed request for transcript forms and nursing school transcripts sent directly from the school that individual graduated
- Be licensed as an RN in another US state
