RN Programs in Nebraska

Nebraska RN Programs

Every person has a slightly different goal in the career he or she chooses. Some look for careers that will be in demand in the future, while others look for careers that will offer great pay opportunities or emotional satisfaction. Registered nursing is a career that offers all of these things. Those who wish to begin an exciting and rewarding career should look into Nebraska RN programs.

RN programs in Nebraska range from 2 years to 4 years. Many schools, ranging from community colleges to private universities, offer RN programs, as well as some hospitals. Individuals should choose the program that best suits needs.

Becoming an RN in Nebraska

In order to become a registered nurse in Nebraska, one must have completed a 2-4 year approved education program at a university, college, or hospital. Only those who have completed a state-approved program are eligible for licensure.

In Nebraska, one can become licensed either by examination or by endorsement. Nebraska is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so those who reside in another compact state cannot become licensed in Nebraska. All applicants must submit the following items with a completed licensure application:

  • Licensure Fee
  • Documentation (copy of drivers license, etc.) proving the individual is at least 19 years of age
  • Copy of document proving eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Certified transcripts sent directly from nursing program to the board
  • For any crimes or misdemeanors: request a certified copy of the court records and a letter from probation officer and document any treatment or disciplinary action (if applicable)

An individual who is applying to become an RN by examination must also register for and pass the NCLEX licensing exam. One in this situation must submit the following items, in addition to those listed above, with his or her application:

  • Recent wallet-sized signed photo
  • Foreign graduates: Evidence of completing CGFNS or Canadian Nurses Association exams
  • Foreign graduates not educated in English: Evidence of passing score on TOEFL

An applicant for licensure by endorsement must either be a resident of Nebraska or of a non-compact state. In addition to those required by all applicants, an individual applying for licensure by endorsement must submit the following

  • License Verification from original state of licensure
  • Notarized copy of current license (for temporary permit)

Renewing an RN License

Nebraska RN licenses are valid for a 2 year period. All licenses expire on October 31st of even numbered years.
