This program prepares a person to meet all the legal requirements for a license as a vocational nurse in California. The practice of vocational nursing means the performance of services requiring those technical and manual skills that are acquired from courses taken in this program. Theory content and clinical skills are components of each course of study.
The practice of a vocational nurse is under the direction of a licensed physician, or registered
professional nurse. Some of the authorized practices of a licensed vocational nurse are as follows:
Administer medications by hypodermic injection
Withdraw blood from a patient
Administer intravenous fluids after following State guidelines
Administer supervised skin tests and immunizations
Pass medications
General nursing care
