The Castleton Nursing Department offers a major program leading to the Associate in Science in Nursing degree. Graduates are eligible for licensure as Registered Nurses and are qualified to function in a beginning level staff position in various health care agencies. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). The program is approved by the Vermont State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
In addition to the College's general admission requirements, admission to the Associate in Science in Nursing program is selective and based on the following minimal criteria:
-Combined Critical Reading and Math SAT scores of 1000 or above
-Graduation from high school in the upper quarter of class
-Evaluation of prior post-secondary course work
-Meeting with the Nursing Chairperson

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing equips graduates to meet these challenges through a broadened educational focus including communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills as well as leadership preparation and professional role development. Our success is demonstrated through an award winning service learning program and National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) pass rates that are consistently above state and national averages. Building upon the strengths of our existing associate degree program, Castleton is committed to offering multiple pathways to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. In baccalaureate nursing courses, students will work closely with faculty who are experts in their field to tailor clinical experiences that are unique to the student’s individual passions. Students from diverse backgrounds, including those participating in a traditional four year experience, those embarking on a new career, and registered nurses continuing their education will all share experiences and inspirations in a student-centered learning environment.
