ADN Program Details

The program which prepares you to become a Registered Nurse is covered in four sequential semesters, with a broad exposure to both nursing and the liberal arts. You will concentrate on learning the general and specific health care needs of people of all ages, from birth, adolescence, child-bearing years through older adulthood, in medical, obstetric, surgical and psychiatric situations. We balance classroom theory and campus laboratory practice, with a special emphasis on clinical experience in selected hospitals and health care agencies in the Bay Area.

Nursing is a practice discipline which involves physical, mental and interpersonal demands. The physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, twisting, bending, use of the senses, and fine motor skills. Mental demands include concentration, problem solving, attention, organization, managing emotions during stress, memory, judgment, following written & verbal directions. Interpersonal skills involve cooperation, social skills, and communication skills. The workplace is fast paced, involves use of technology with frequent exposure to blood and body fluids, odors, dust, chemicals and noise.
