The Associate Degree Nursing Program, being an integral unit of the College of Southern Idaho, educates graduates from diverse populations who: demonstrate knowledge and caring through the nursing process to respond to the holistic needs of individuals in a variety of settings, and interacts professionally with patients, families, and coworkers within the community. The graduate promotes optimum health in a cost-effective manner, as part of a multidisciplinary workforce, and recognizes that learning is a lifelong endeavor.
Upon completion of the Practical Nursing Program, the graduate will:
-Be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN);
-Apply principles from behavioral, medical, and nursing sciences in implementing care of patients with common recurring health problems;
-Use the nursing process to recognize and meet the needs of the patients with common recurring health problems in structured settings;
-Demonstrate critical thinking and perform psycho-motor skills in providing direct nursing care;
-Function as a knowledgeable member of the multidisciplinary health care team;
-Assist the patient in meeting his/her health care needs by participating in patient/family teaching;
-Identify community resources available for promotion and maintenance of health and well-being of the individual;
-Distinguish between the responsibilities and legalities of the Licensed Practical Nurse and other health team members;
-Demonstrate the ability to function within the scope of practice related to the LPN leadership/management role;
-Assume the responsibility for life-long learning.
