The Generic Nursing option is designed to prepare students without previous health care education for a career as Registered Nurse. Students may begin the full-time and part-time Generic Nursing Option in August or January. The application deadline for Fall term Generic full-time and part-time is May 1st. The application deadline for Generic Full-time for Spring term is September 1st. Please note that Generic Options only admits in Fall term.
Full time courses are generaly taught during the day, part-time courses are generaly taught evening and weekends. The part-time track is convenient for those students who prefer to work while attending classes.
A total of 72 credits is required for an Associate in Science degree, of which 42 consist of the nursing credits in the nursing curriculum. This program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON). Graduates are eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
In the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, students will gain knowledge and skills needed for professional nursing practice in all clinical settings. They will also gain skills for advanced nursing practice leadership, management and education positions in a multicultural society. The program is designed for licensed registered nurses (R.N.) who already have an Associate in Science in Nursing from an accredited program.
Admission requirements:
-An Associate in Science in Nursing or higher from
an accredited institution
-An active license as a registered nurse
in Florida
-An application for admission to the college. ($30 fee)
Readmission application for MDC Graduates no fee
-A minimum 2.5 cumulative and nursing GPA
-A BSN program application with supporting
documentation ($25 Fee)
-A completed level 2 background investigation done only at MDC,
drug screening, and Physical Examination
-Satisfactory completion of CLAS Requirement or
alternative (see advisor for details)
-Completion of required courses prior to formal admission
