The nursing program at Dakota Wesleyan University reflects the institution’s commitment to service and leadership within the region. The associate degree nursing program provides a curriculum designed to prepare the graduate for general staff nurse positions in hospitals, long term care facilities and community agencies. Students accepted into the two-year nursing curriculum, available in Mitchell and Huron, can complete the required 71 credit hours in the nursing program within two years and two summer sessions.
The nursing curriculum uses Roy’s Adaptation Model and builds upon the three nursing roles (provider of care, manager of care and member of a profession) of the associate degree nurse and the four major concepts of person, health, environment, and nurse.
The nursing program is designed to offer the body of knowledge and learning experiences necessary to prepare individuals for associate degree nursing practice. Graduates of the nursing program earn an associate of arts degree and will have satisfied the academic requirements necessary for eligibility to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).
The associate degree nursing program is approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326; telephone- 404-975-5000 ; Web site: www.nlnac.org.
