The MSN program prepares advanced practice nurses in a variety of specialty areas. The program reflects the faculty's commitment to providing graduate education that is relevant to the dynamic contemporary practice environment. Graduates are prepared to apply for the appropriate Nurse Practitioner and/or Certified Nurse Midwife certification examinations. The curriculum consists of four components: theoretical core, clinical/functional core, specialty courses, and electives. Participative learning, multiple options for learning, and alternative teaching methods characterize the learning process.
Each of the specialties can be completed in 3-5 semesters of full-time study. Part-time study is available.
The RN-MSN option provides an opportunity for associate degree and diploma-prepared nurses to obtain the MSN. The curriculum is characterized by flexibility and recognizing the diversity of the students who enroll. The RN-MSN applicant must be a graduate of a state board accredited, regionally accredited, National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited program. In addition they must have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of required general education course work prior to enrollment. Students accepted to this program complete 17 semester hours of bridge course work prior to beginning the specialty curriculum. Full time and part time study are available.
