BSN Program Details

The traditional BSN program is a 4-year course of study. Students are admitted to the College of Nursing program after they have completed the nursing prerequisites and either the Liberal Studies requirements and at FSU (60 semester hours) or earned an Associates of Arts degree from a Florida public institution. Students with degrees or course work from Florida private or out-of-state institutions will receive a course by course evaluation to determine if they have satisfied these requirements. Although the GPA requirement is a 3.0 overall and a 3.0 average in the science prerequisites, due to the high caliber applicant pool, the current average gpa for incoming students is 3.6 or higher.

The College of Nursing is located in Duxbury Hall, a modern four-story facility with technology enhanced classrooms and lecture halls. Our patient simulators, clinical labs, research tools, and study areas provide students with an exceptional learning environment. Clinical experiences are planned in the College's simulation center and throughout a variety of regional health care agencies.

Graduates of the BSN program are well-prepared to complete the national licensure exam for registered nurses. Current class pass rates are 92% for first time test takers and an overall 100% pass rate for each class.

The Florida State University College of Nursing BSN programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

MSN Program Details

The MSN Nurse Educator program is designed to prepare well-qualified nurses to become well-prepared nursing educators so they may pursue careers in patient education, staff nurse education, pre-licensure nursing education programs in community colleges, and academic nursing.

We strive to take the myth out of teaching and to approach the teaching-learning process in a systematic, orderly fashion. Program content focuses on the theoretical foundations of nursing education, tests and measurements, cultural diversity, ethics, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, clinical teaching and evaluation, and strategies needed for teaching any group in any setting. Emphasis is on the teacher-learner process, curriculum development, and course implementation and evaluation in both the classroom and clinical areas

The course of study is 38 semester credits. All courses are offered online. Students have both theory and clinical practica coursework.

The MSN programs at the Florida State University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Accelerated MSN Program Details

The College of Nursing offers an Accelerated BSN (ABSN) curriculum for qualified and highly motivated students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in another field. The full-time campus-based 12-month ABSN program incorporates all of the components of a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This program also offers students access to a variety of educational and clinical experiences as well as expert nursing faculty and technological resources. The rapid pace of the ABSN curriculum demands a full-time commitment to academics.

The graduate of the Florida State University ABSN program is well-prepared to complete the national licensure exam to become a registered nurse (RN) and practice in all health care settings. Graduates from accelerated nursing programs are highly valued by employers who recognize the additional skills and education these graduates bring to the workplace.

The Florida State University College of Nursing BSN programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Details

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is designed to prepare nurses for the highest level of clinical practice in the profession of nursing. Two specialty tracks are available: Family Nurse Practitioner and Health Systems Leadership. The program includes a total of 90 credit hours of post baccalaureate study and is designed in accordance with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing (2006).
