Upon completion of the program, the graduate of practical nursing must perform competently the entry-level skills as evidenced by the graduate outcomes listed below.
Assessment:
-Assesses the client holistically (physical, emotional, spiritual and socio-cultural).
-Gather pertinent information or data within established protocols and guidelines from various sources to care for client:
a. Client interviews.Observations/measurements.
b. Health care team members and families.

-Utilizes knowledge of normal values to identify deviations in health status.
-Gathered information is recorded and reported accordingly.
-Communicates findings to appropriate health care personnel.
Planning:
-Contributes to the development of nursing care plans to meet the changing needs of clients and the health care system.
-Utilize established nursing diagnoses for clients with health problems.
-Prioritizes nursing care needs of client.
Implementation:
-Provides nursing care according to:
a. Acknowledged standards of practice.
b. Priority of client needs.
c. Respect all clients and family rights to dignity and privacy.
-Utilizes effective communication in:
a. Recording and Reporting.
b. Establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationship with clients and families.
-Demonstrate professionalism and collaborates with health care team member.
-Promote health teaching with consideration of client’s age, race and education level.
-Demonstrate valid and reliable techniques in performing the technologic operation of nursing practice.
Evaluation:
-Knows self-limitation and seeks guidance as needed in evaluating nursing care.
-Modifies nursing approaches based on evaluation of nursing care.
-Collaborates with healthcare team members in the revision of nursing care plans.
Member of the Discipline:
-Complies with the scope of practice as outline in the Virginia Nurse Practice Act.
-Describes the role of the licensed practical nurse.
-Utilizes educational opportunities for continued personal and professional growth.
-Identifies personal strengths and weaknesses for the purpose of improving performance.
-Adheres to the nursing code of ethics.
-Functions as an advocate for the health care consumer.
Managing/Supervision:
-Assumes responsibilities for managing his/her own actions when providing nursing care.
-Accountable for nursing care delegated to unlicensed health care providers.
Political Activism:
-Be aware and believe that the practical nurse is a fundamental part of nursing care.
