The Registered Nursing Program is a dynamic challenging four semester program. Students learn pathophysiology, pharmacology, theoretical concepts of nursing care, clinical skills, and professional attitudes in preparation for practice as a Registered Nurse.
From the beginning of the program, students have the opportunity to care for well and sick patients of all ages in area clinical facilities, including Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Natividad Medical Center, Watsonville Community Hospital, and Mee Memorial Hospital.
The Hartnell College Vocational Nursing (VN) Program is designed to prepare qualified individuals to practice vocational nursing. Licensed Vocational Nurses perform essential nursing services under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. They have work opportunities in correctional facilities, doctor’s offices, long-term care hospitals, public or private hospitals, clinics, or for private individuals. The college grants a certificate in vocational nursing after successful completion of the program. The student is then eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-PN examination for California licensure and, with a passing score, will become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
Because the Vocational Nursing program is impacted, completion of program prerequisites does not guarantee admission into the Hartnell College Vocational Nursing Program.
