Based upon its mission and in harmony with its philosophy, the School of Practical Nursing aims to achieve the following goals, preparing Graduate Practical Nurses who will:
-function as beginning practitioners under the supervision of a registered nurse within structured acute, intermediate, long term and ambulatory health care facilities.
-be accountable for personal and professional behavior and growth.
-have respect for human rights, social justice and the dignity of all individuals, sick or well.
-contribute to the health and welfare of the community.
The curriculum of Holy Name Medical Center School of Practical Nursing is developed in accordance with the philosophy and goals of the school and provides for the education of the student as a practical nurse and as a person. The program extends over the period of one year. The curriculum design is based on a synthesis of constructs, definitions and propositions from Orem's self-care theory. The nursing courses involve classroom instruction as well as clinical experiences. The clinical experiences are supervised by the faculty of the School of Practical Nursing.
