The Practical Nursing Program combines theory, taught in the classroom, with practical experience learned in the lab and clinical settings.
Three programs are available. The full-time McPherson/Salina programs meet four to five days per week for 12 months, beginning in June. Forty/twenty students are selected. The part-time program meets two days per week for 24 months, beginning in January, with twenty students selected yearly.
Upon completion of either of these programs, students earn a Certificate in Practical Nursing. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
This program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN), and is one of only four in the state of Kansas accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
The HCC program has an NCLEX-PN pass rate of over 90 percent in the past five years; above both the national and Kansas pass rate for the exam.
Students attend the program at facilities in McPherson or Salina Kansas, and various clinical sites.
An advisory board of employers meets regularly to provide direction for the program, ensuring that students receive the education needed to prepare for entry into the workforce.
