In keeping with the School’s conceptual framework, and Benner’s Model of Novice to Expert, Practical Nursing I is an introduction to nursing and the concept of disease and illness. Students in this didactic and clinical course are novice and demonstrate beginner level knowledge and skills. PN I course content includes theory of health care and nursing principles and skills necessary to assist individuals in meeting these needs. Use of the nursing process in the care of the medical/surgical client is introduced. Concepts and skills increase in complexity as the semester progresses.
