LPN Program Details

The Practical Nursing diploma program is designed to prepare students to write the NCLEX-PN for licensure as practical nurses. The program prepares graduates to give competent nursing care. This is done through a selected number of academic and occupational courses providing a variety of techniques and materials necessary to assist the student in acquiring the needed knowledge and skills to give competent care. A variety of clinical experiences are planned so that theory and practice are integrated under the guidance of the clinical instructor. Program graduates receive a Practical Nursing diploma and have the qualifications of an entry-level practical nurse.

Students must take the NLN pre-admission PN test with a minimum 85th composite percentile result (nonrefundable fee required). Priority for selection will be given to the students with the highest NLN composite percentile scores. (NLN may be taken up to 3 times only). Students will initially be admitted into the Healthcare Assistant certificate of credit and must successfully complete the following courses with a cumulative average of 2.5 or higher in order to be considered for admission into the Practical Nursing program: ENGL 1010, MATH 1012, PSYC 1010, COMP 1000, ALHS 1060,and ALHS 1011 at Lanier Technical College or have a GPA of 2.5 on all previous college course(s). Students wishing to transfer credit from other colleges must have all transfer of credit finalized with the Office of the Registrar at least one full quarter prior to selection into the program. All ALHS courses (except ALHS 1020) must be completed within two years of acceptance into the program. Students must complete all required developmental courses before taking any core or occupational courses. General core courses may be taken any quarter. Federal Financial Aid is not available for students completing developmental courses only.
