After satisfactory completion of the upper division major in nursing, the student will receive the Bachelor of Science in nursing (B.S.N.) degree. After receiving the B.S.N., candidates are eligible to write the NCLEX-RN Exam to become a registered nurse. The Louisiana College Division of Nursing does not guarantee that those graduating from the nursing program will be successful in passing NCLEX-RN and/or the securing of employment in the profession of nursing.
The accelerated BSN program (ABSN) has been developed specifically for individuals who already have an undergraduate degree in another discipline. For a whole host of reasons, these people consider transitioning into a career in nursing. Many are seeking the employment opportunities offered within nursing and others state that they are eagerly seeking a career that would allow them to give something of themselves.
ABSN students bring the skills and abilities that helped them complete their prior degree. Many also have a strong career background in other professional areas.
The course prerequisites need to be completed prior to commencing the ABSN clinical program, but application can be made when prereq study is underway.
