Practical nursing is a caring profession. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are trained to provide safe and effective nursing care to people of all ages. Nursing care includes various activities related to the maintenance of health, prevention of illness, screening for illness, treatment of illness, and restoration of health. LPNs care for individuals and communities.
Northwest Louisiana Technical College - Minden campus offers a diploma in practical nursing. Pre-nursing courses are individualized based on entrance test scores and previously earned college credit, and usually require only one semester to complete. Students who successfully complete the pre-nursing courses will become certified nursing assistants.
After the pre-nursing portion, the practical nursing program requires 16 months to complete. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse.
General requirements:
17 years of age
High school graduate or GED
Satisfactory scores on admission testing (Compass)
Submission of all required documents by deadline
