RN to BSN Program Details

The RN-BSN curriculum is web-enhanced for registered nurses licensed to practice nursing. Nursing courses are offered via computer to facilitate distance learning. Although courses are available via computer, several opportunities to visit the campus are available. They include, but are not limited to initial orientation, continuing education programs, the University's Founder's Day, Nursing Pinning Ceremony, Honor's Convocation and Graduation. All students must successfully complete the General Education Curriculum (GEC) prior to enrollment in the nursing bridge course, Nursing 4520. Students in the RN-BSN Curriculum matriculate for one year in the upper division.

BSN Program Details

The traditional nursing curriculum is offered for qualified high school graduates, transfer and second degree students and licensed practical nurses. The nursing curriculum is divided into a lower and upper division, each of which is two years for traditional students. The lower division courses provide knowledge in natural sciences with a liberal arts focus. The upper division courses are in the nursing major. Completion of 56 hours is required to obtain Junior status for admission to upper division. All students must successfully complete the Pre-nursing courses prior to admission to the upper division.

Accelerated BSN Program Details

The curriculum for the Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing Program for Second Degree students mirrors the traditional nursing program. The acceleration of the program is accomplished by giving the students up to 60 credits from their previous degree(s), moving two non-nursing courses (Psychology and Statistics) from the Upper Division to the Lower Division, and the use of summer months so that students complete the program in sixteen (16) contiguous months. All students are required to complete the General Education Curriculum and Pre-Nursing courses prior to application into the accelerated program. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is used to determine a student's readiness to begin the nursing course of study. The TEAS is an assessment of Math, Science, Reading, English, and Language skills. Students admitted to the Accelerated BSN program are required have a natural science GPA of 2.5. The natural science courses which are evaluated include chemistry, math and biology.A cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required of students admitted to this program, but the competitive cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above.
