The Associate Degree Nursing program is composed of a two-year curriculum designed to prepare graduates to give direct patient care in a variety of health care settings. Upon completing the curriculum the graduates may apply to write the National Council Licensure Examination administered by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas. After passing the exam, they are ready to begin their careers as Registered Nurses.
The Associate Degree Nursing program includes educational and integrated nursing curriculum that assists students in acquiring the knowledge and skills to function as beginning practitioners of nursing. Students receive classroom instruction and coordinated clinical experience in the nursing care of clients at local hospitals and community agencies under the supervision and guidance of the nursing faculty. Nursing courses are grouped in progressive levels of complexity and students must successfully complete all course work in one level before progressing to the next. After completing the prerequisite courses, students may enter the generic two year track without prior medical education or enter one of the Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing tracks with a vocational nursing license (LVN/LPN). NCTC does not offer a Paramedic to RN track.
North Central Texas College offers a 12-month (3 semesters) full-time vocational nursing program. The NCTC nursing faculty members are educationally qualified and come from across the United States with a diversity of clinical expertise. This allows for creative learning environments to train competent, well-rounded, vocational nurses with high job-market demand. NCTC graduates' pass rates on the National Council Licensing Exam for Pratical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) in the state of Texas have been superior to many other colleges for more than a decade. The program has maintained full-approval by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON).
The vocational nursing program is offered on each of the five campuses (Gainesville, Corinth, Bowie, Graham and eCampus) of North Central Texas College. Students attend school 5 days per week (Monday thru Friday) for approximately 8 hours per day. Semester breaks adhere to the regular college calendar. Online students attend clinical on weekends. The curriculum consists of classroom lecture, skills lab and clinical practicum components. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN for practical/vocational nursing in all 50 states.
