RN to BSN Programs

RN to BSN Program Details

The BSN degree prepared nurse is highly sought after by healthcare employers who recognize that patient acuity now necessitates a higher level of nursing education.

The interdisciplinary BSN curriculum focuses on current health care issues and delivery and prepares the student to assume a leadership role in a variety of settings.

Students can obtain a BSN in several ways. Registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma may obtain a BSN through our online track or through the combination on site and online track offered at the Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami Kendall and Orlando campuses. Registered nurses receive 64 prior learning credits for their licensure. Other than a current RN license, no pre-requisites are required for the RN to BSN program. Upon evaluation of transcripts, additional transfer semester hour credits for general education courses completed at a college or university may be awarded. This track may be completed in 18 months, depending on the number of semester hours the student chooses to complete each term.

For the student without an RN license, please visit the entry level nursing program which leads to the BSN and preparation for taking the RN licensure examination (NCLEX-RN).

BSN Program Details

The entry level program is designed for students who are seeking initial licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Upon completion of the 121 credits the student is awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and is eligible to sit for the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX).

-The Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is the critical first step for a career in professional nursing. NSU offers the entry level nursing program in Ft. Lauderdale*, Ft. Myers, and Miami Kendall Florida SEC locations.
-The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and other leading nursing organizations recognize the BSN degree as the minimum educational requirement for professional nursing practice.
-The BSN curriculum includes a broad spectrum of scientific, critical-thinking, humanistic, communication, and leadership skills, including specific courses on community health nursing not typically included in diploma or associate-degree tracks.
-Today's professional nurse must be a skilled provider, designer, manager, and coordinator of care. Nurses must make quick, sometimes life-and-death decisions; understand a patient's treatment, symptoms, and danger signs; supervise other nursing personnel; coordinate care with other health providers; master advanced technology; guide patients through the maze of health resources in a community; and teach patients how to comply with treatment and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
-The BSN nurse is preferred—More nurse executives are indicating their desire for the majority of their hospital staff nurses to be prepared at the baccalaureate level to meet the more complex demands of today's patient care. In fact, the words "BSN preferred" are appearing more frequently in classified ads for registered nurses nationwide.

RN to MSN Program Details

The BSN degree prepared nurse is highly sought after by healthcare employers who recognize that patient acuity now necessitates a higher level of nursing education. The master's degree in nursing prepares the experienced nurse to advance in nursing leadership.

The RN to MSN option is designed to meet the educational needs of the registered nurse who wants to accelerate the process in obtaining a B.S.N. and a M.S.N. Registered nurses may complete the first three terms through our online track or through the combination onsite and an online track offered at the Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami Kendall and Orlando campuses. Registered nurses receive 64 prior learning credits for their licensure. Upon evaluation of transcripts, additional transfer semester hour credits for general education courses completed at a college or university may be awarded. Completion of all general education courses is a requirement prior to beginning the M.S. N. courses. Students will transition to the M.S.N. courses after meeting the requirements for the M.S. N. program.

There are three unique tracks to earning the MSN. Our MSN tracks in education, public/community health nursing, and health systems leadership offer in-depth education by faculty experts in these fields.

-MSN nursing education for those nurses wishing to enhance their ability to transition to an academic or staff development position.
-MSN public/community health nursing for nurses wishing to improve the health of communities and/or advance their careers in public health.
-MSN health systems leadership for nurses who desire a position of leadership within the unique organizational environment of health care.

For the student without an RN license, please visit the entry level nursing program which leads to the BSN and preparation for taking the RN licensure examination (NCLEX-RN).
