BSN Program Details

Prospective undergraduate students who desire to enter the traditional 4-year BSN program at the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing must apply and be accepted to Samford University . Students must also apply to the School of Nursing using the Nursing Centralized Application System website, www.nursingcas.org. Applications are reviewed in the School of Nursing frequently, and applicants are notified of their status on timely basis.

Freshmen applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Also required is a minimum composite ACT score of 21 or a minimum composite SAT score of 1000, no more than 5 years old.

Transfer applicants must have a minimum cumulative 2.7 and a minimum ACT score of 21 or a minimum SAT score of 1000, no more than 5 years old. No ACT/SAT score is required for Transfer applicants with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on at least 24 credits. A student who received a D or F in a nursing course from another institution will not be considered for admission to the School of Nursing.

MSN Program Details

Master of Science in Nursing

Applicants for the MSN degree program will hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program. The School of Nursing considers applicants on a competitive basis; thus, applicants’ admission profiles are evaluated according to stated admission criteria. All students are required to have a laptop with microphone and webcam accessories. Admissions Criteria

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
Undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
An on-campus or web-cam interview
One undergraduate course in nursing research with a grade of C (2.00) or better.
One undergraduate health assessment course with a grade of B (3.00) or better
Applicant must receive a minimum score of 402 on the Millers Analogy Test (MAT); or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of 450 verbal, 520 qualitative, and 4.0 analytical writing. Not required for Post-Master’s Certificate applicants.
International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Application Process

Effective March 5, 2011, the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing will participate in the Nursing Centralized Application Process (NursingCAS) and all applications must be submitted through NursingCAS at http://www.nursingcas.org
Applicants must also complete a Supplemental Information Form
Before you begin the online application:
Obtain student copies of your college transcripts to assist you in completing the course work section for the application.
Carefully read the “Before you apply, Instructions, Code of Cooperation and FAQ’s” sections before you get started. This can be found at http://www.nursingcas.org
Request official transcripts from each institution attended by using the transcript request form in NursingCAS. Complete the form, submit it to the registrar’s office of each institution attended, and instruct them to enclose the form with your official sealed transcript. Transcripts must be sent to the NursingCAS Transcript Department. Nursing CAS accepts official transcripts directly sent from the registrar’s office ONLY. Please send transcripts as early as possible and no less than 4-6 weeks before the application deadline due to the time needed by NursingCAS to verify your application.
Pay the initial service fee of $65 when submitting the NursingCAS application.
Submit evidence of current unencumbered license as a registered nurse through NursingCAS on the Professional Experience/Certifications section. Include state of issuance, number and expiration date.
Three letters of recommendation submitted through NursingCAS. The three required recommendations should be from 1) current or previous professor, 2) supervisor, and 3) professional colleague. References should attest to the applicant’s academic ability and potential.
Submit official test scores to Samford University Graduate Nursing Program.

Conditional Admission

Should any of the above conditions not be met, the applicant may be considered on an individual basis for conditional admission. In the event of conditional admission, the applicant must complete the first nine credits of the required graduate nursing curriculum at Samford University with a B or better in each course attempted. Failure to meet the requirement as stated will prevent progression in the School of Nursing graduate program.

RN to MSN Program Details

RN-MSN

Applicants for the RN-MSN program will hold an Associate's of Science in nursing degree from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program, or a hospital diploma. The School of Nursing considers applicants on a competitive basis; thus, applicants' admission profiles are evaluated according to stated admission criteria. All students are required to have a laptop with microphone and webcam accessories. Accelerated BSN Program Details

Accelerated Second Degree BSN (15-Month) is an accelerated opportunity for individuals who already hold a baccalaureate degree in a field of study other than nursing. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, the student is eligible to take the licensing examination for registered nurses [NCLEX-RN]. A student who received a D or F in a nursing course from another institution will not be considered for admission to the School of Nursing.

Accelerated Second Degree students (15-month program) must meet the following admission requirements:

Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale in courses required for prior bachelor and/or graduate degree(s).

Have prerequisite courses completed by the start date of the accelerated second degree program with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in all required science courses (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and chemistry).

Using the NursingCAS application process, submit three letters of recommendation speaking to the applicant's ability to successfully complete a rigorous academic load.

Be interviewed by School of Nursing Faculty.

Doctor of Nursing Practice
Admission criteria

Will hold a master’s degree from a NLN or CCNE accredited program. (Applicants with unique credentials will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
Master’s degree cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale (MAT or GRE is not required)
Master’s degree must be in the area of advanced practice or administration. Applicants with unique credential will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Attend an on-campus or web-cam interview.
International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Submit your reasons for seeking the DNP on NursingCAS on the Personal Statement section.
In one document, include a Curriculum vitae or resume AND a 1-2 page paper identifying an evidenced-based practice project that you are interested in. This could be a practice improvement issue, a clinical management problem, or an area of clinical research that the applicant will address while in the DNP program. The paper should cite appropriate sources and follow APA format. In addition, the applicant must be able to identify key resources (personnel, preceptors, institutions) necessary to complete the project.
