The Practical Nursing Program of the SCCTC's Adult Workforce Education Center is an eleven month full-time course of study for adults. Classes are held Monday through Friday during the daytime hours. The program consists of four sequential quarters which progress from basic to more complex skills.
The program is designed to help the student to acquire the attitudes, skills, and knowledge essential to the role of a competent practical nurse. The focus is on holistic nursing care, which requires the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. The practical nurse functions at the direction of a licensed physician, chiropractor, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or registered nurse. The program consists of classroom instruction, skills lab instruction/practice, and supervised clinical experiences in an accredited hospital, long term care facilities, and other health care settings.
The goal of the program is to prepare eligible graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, a certificate will be awarded to the graduate. Successful completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility to take the licensure examination.
