The educational objective of the Associate in Science Degree Nursing program is to prepare the student who, upon graduation and successful completion of the state licensure exam (NCLEX-RN), will be able to function as a Registered Nurse (RN) within the scope of nursing as defined by the State of California Nursing Practice Act.
Space in the program is limited to 30 students each fall and spring semester. In order to be eligible for enrollment, students must file an application packet with the Admissions & Records Office during designated application-filing periods each semester. All qualified applicants are placed on a waiting list and enrolled on a space available basis in the order of their accepted application date.
Students must meet all the following requirements to make application to the wait list:
-High school diploma or its equivalent
-Completion of prerequisite courses with specified grade requirements. No in progress courses will be accepted.
Opportunities for vocational nurses are paramount in long-term care facilities, home health agencies, physician offices/clinics, and acute care agencies.

Upon successful completion of the three-semester program, the student receives a certificate of completion from Shasta College and is qualified to take the NCLEX-PN examination to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
