Nursing builds on the technical background of licensed practical nursing, offering LPN's the training to enable them to sit for the licensing exam to become Registered Nurses. Throughout the courses, the nursing process is used to address goals and to assist individuals to meet their basic human needs.
The primary goal of the program is to prepare the beginning practitioner to meet the needs of the person and their community. Gordon’s “Functional Health Patterns” and Abraham Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” have been incorporated as basis for theory in the nursing program. Core components include Professional Behaviors, Communication, Assessment, Clinical Decision Making, Caring Interventions, Teaching and Learning, Collaboration, and Managing Care.
One of the most popular medical careers, nursing offers you a chance to work in hospitals or doctor’s offices. A nurse works under the direction of a doctor or a nurse practitioner and the main duties are to dispense medication, start IVs, take vital signs, operate some medical equipment, and directly care for patients. Nurses do not generally diagnose conditions, but may report patient symptoms or changes in conditions to doctors.
