Prospective students wanting to become a registered nurse will find program information under the Practical Nursing web page for our Bi-level Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students may complete the requirements for the NCLEX-RN (licensing exam for RN) in two years if the student is not already a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
If you are an LPN and want to advance your career, this is the program for you. This is year 2 of a two year program. It consists of a transitions course and two full semesters of classes.
The mission of the Associate Degree Nursing program is to prepare students to become registered professional nurses Through a bi-level program in an educational environment that promotes critical thinking, growth of the individual student and a holistic view of health care. The student is expected to be caring, conscientious, flexible, professional, and accountable for their actions. In addition, education is a learning process that results in behavioral change and is most effective as a shared responsibility.
The first year of SFCC's Associate Degree Nursing program prepares the nursing student to meet the requirements of the Missouri State Board of Nursing for Practical Nursing. This means that ALL students, upon successful completion of the first year of the nursing program will be applying to take the LPN licensure exam. Upon successful passing of the LPN licensure exam, these students will continue on into Year Two of the program without having to reapply. The nursing student has the first eight weeks of Year two to take and pass the licensure exam.
Nursing is a very rewarding career. Providing health care requires many different levels of expertise. Practical nursing is one level of nursing care that can be delivered. Year one prepares the student to be successful in a variety of health care settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, the community, and industrial environments as a practical nurse. Upon receiving permission from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, our first year completers may sit for the NCLEX-PN exam.
Our program boasts high pass rates and enjoys an exceptional reputation in the community for outstanding education.
