This is a 65- credit upper division program in which registered nurses complete requirements for the baccalaureate degree. Clinical experiences are arranged in a variety of community settings. In addition, numerous opportunities are provided for students to apply nursing and other theories to their current clinical practice and to further their development as professional nurses.
In a typical entering class, 70 registered nurse students are admitted in the Fall Semester. The student retention rate is 95 percent. The program is offered on a semester basis with three semesters of concentrated study comprising the usual pattern.
Flexible scheduling permits study, for the most part, one day per week, day and evening; or on two days a week, either daytime (usually between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.) or evening(usually between the hours of 4:45 and 9:00 p.m.) Each semester is 16 weeks in length.
All degree programs may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis.

This 15-month Accelerated BS undergraduate program at the College of Nursing, Downstate Medical Center consists of 60 credits of classroom theory and supervised clinical practice. Upon successful completion of the program, the 60 credits awarded by the College of Nursing, together with the 65 prerequisite credits for admission to the College, comprise the 125 credits required for graduation. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a BS degree with a major in nursing. These graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon passing the NCLEX-RN, the graduates will have the license to practice as a registered nurse.
