ADN Program Details

The ASN Program offers preparation for practice as a registered nurse and may serve as a basis for further nursing education. This program requires 70 semester hours for completion. Upon successful completion of required courses, the student is awarded the Associate of Science in Nursing degree. Please refer to the ASN Program Student Learning Outcomes in the ASN Quick Links (above left) for additional information.

The ASN graduate is eligible to apply to the State Board of Nursing for licensure as a registered nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse who holds the ASN degree is prepared to practice in primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings where policies and procedures are specified and guidance is available.

RN to BSN Program Details

The RN to BSN/MSN track features:

Online coursework and personalized clinical schedules allowing maximum flexibility in managing work, family, and educational responsibilities

Two semesters or four semesters BSN Clinical Nursing Sequence

Students can complete the clinical nursing sequence for the BSN degree in 2 semesters and complete the MSN Clinical Specialist or Nursing Informatics Specialist in 4 additional semester or complete the Family Nurse Practitioner in 5 additional semesters

Highly qualified and caring faculty who are experienced with online teaching

BSN Program Details

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) program is designed to develop expertise necessary for nurses in the rapidly changing health care field. Faculty are well qualified and are committed to teaching students how to be excellent nurses. Their goal is to assist each individual student to reach their maximum potential, and to prepare each student for the licensing examination (NCLEX) which each graduate takes upon completion of the BSN Degree in order to become a Registered Nurse.

The Bachelor of Science (BSN) program, located on the Troy campus, offers many career opportunities. The graduate may choose to work in a variety of positions and in areas such as community health, obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, oncology, surgery, geriatrics, recovery room, and intensive care or critical care. The BSN prepared nurse is qualified to function in situations which are complex and require self-direction.

A BSN Degree can be earned in approximately four and a half years – four semesters are needed to complete General Studies courses for the BSN program and five semesters are spent taking nursing courses. Students are accepted for admission to the BSN program in the Spring and Fall terms on the Troy Campus. Deadlines for receipt of BSN applications are March 15 for fall and September 15 for spring. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the student is awarded the BSN degree and may then apply to the Alabama Board of Nursing to take the licensing exam to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

MSN Program Details

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is offered online and based on TROY campuses in Montgomery, Troy, and Phenix City. The MSN is designed to provide graduates of baccalaureate programs in nursing the opportunity to develop the advanced knowledge and clinical skills required for leadership positions in nursing. The MSN program prepares clinical nurse specialists in Adult Health Nursing, Maternal-Infant Health Nursing, and Nursing Informatics, and nurse practitioners as Family Nurse Practitioners. The Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate option is available for MSN-prepared nurses.

The MSN degree is awarded on completion of course work with a 3.0 or better grade point average (GPA), fulfillment of candidacy requirements and successful completion of the required comprehensive examination.
Students may enroll for full-time or part-time study. Students are accepted for admission to all tracks for part-time study every semester or full-time study in the fall semester. The program is offered online. Courses are offered online with clinical experiences

Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Details

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a terminal degree that prepares the graduate to provide the most advanced level of nursing care for individuals, families and communities. The outcomes for the program are consistent with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) specifications for practice doctoral programs in nursing in accordance with The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program educates the advanced specialty nurse for expert practice in leadership and clinical roles in a practice-focused doctoral program in nursing. TROY’s program enables nurses to become expert nurse leaders and collaborators in solving problems in health care systems. The program infuses the nursing community with qualified educators who can work with students in new practice settings, demonstrating evidence-based approaches to healthcare using strategic problem solving skills. The changing demands of the nation’s complex healthcare environment require the highest level of scientific knowledge and practice expertise to assure high quality patient outcomes.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is awarded on completion of course work with a 3.0 or better grade point average (GPA), and fulfillment of candidacy requirements. The successful completion of the comprehensive/qualifying examination is required for the post-BSN student.

Students are admitted in spring each year for enrollment in fall semester. Students may enroll for full-time or part-time study.
