The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree Program is offered by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Nursing (UMDNJ-SN) and Ramapo College of New Jersey (RCNJ) School of Theoretical and Applied Science. Graduates of the Joint BSN Program are awarded the BSN degree by UMDNJ and RCNJ. Both institutions are accredited by the Middle States Association. The Joint BSN Program is also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
The general education component of the program is offered by the faculty of RCNJ and the nursing component is offered by the faculty of UMDNJ. Health care facilities and community agencies in north and central New Jersey are used as the primary education sites for clinical nursing courses. The Joint BSN Program combines the strengths of RCNJ and UMDNJ to offer a unique educational experience for the baccalaureate student. The partnership with Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (EHMC), a major center for clinical education, strengthens the experience for students in the generic track. Through an interdisciplinary curricular approach, this program facilitates collaboration and problem-solving with other health care professionals as well as RCNJ students majoring in other disciplines. As a liberal arts college distinguished for its multicultural education, RCNJ offers an interdisciplinary orientation in its philosophy and purpose. As a preeminent academic health sciences university, UMDNJ offers an interdisciplinary health services network and impacts on government and public affairs in New Jersey. EHMC, through its Center for Nursing Practice, offers a professional model combining education, practice, and research. These strengths, unparalleled by any other New Jersey nursing program, greatly enrich the academic culture. Graduates of this program will be prepared to provide nursing care collaboratively with other health professionals within complex health care systems. These graduates, equipped with the knowledge and skills for professional practice, will be prepared to render quality nursing care as well as effect positive change within health care systems.
RN/BSN Curriculum – The Joint BSN Program admits registered nurses, with an associates’ degree or diploma in nursing, and graduates them at the BSN level. Students also have the option of entering the Joint BSN Program with the intention to progress into the MSN Program at UMDNJ-SN.
Generic BSN Curriculum – The UMDNJ/RCNJ partnership in collaboration with Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, also admits students who, upon graduation, receive the BSN degree and are eligible to take the NCLEX examination for licensure as a registered professional nurse. EHMC also serves as the primary educational site for nursing courses.
