The basic Bachelor of Science (B.S.N.) program is designed for individuals who have completed some college coursework and students with an associate’s degree in a non-nursing field.
Students generally apply to this program just prior to their junior year in college. As a full-time, “lock-step” program, it takes five consecutive semesters to complete. Students are admitted as a “cohort” (or class). The cohort progresses through the program together and will graduate together.
Admission is limited and occurs three times a year (each fall on UCF’s Orlando campus, and each spring on UCF’s regional campuses in Cocoa and Daytona Beach). The College of Nursing shares resources and faculty expertise across all three campus sites.
The program curriculum is very demanding with a strong emphasis on the sciences. It also includes service-learning courses with clinical rotations in culturally diverse, medically underserved communities, as well as clinical rotations in long-term care facilities, hospitals and other health care agencies. All nursing courses are offered during the day, while some clinical rotations may take place at night or on the weekends.
The program provides a strong foundation for entry-level nursing practice and advancement into leadership positions and graduate studies. A baccalaureate-educated nurse is prepared to provide comprehensive care in a variety of acute, community and rehabilitative settings.
The web-based dual bachelor’s and master’s degree completion program is designed for registered nurses who have also completed an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree or meet UCF’s general education requirements. While the program coursework is completed online, select courses may also be available at various regional campuses.
Students must meet all UCF general education requirements which can be met with an A.A. degree from a Florida public college. An above average performance in prior undergraduate coursework (3.0 GPA or above) and potential for success in graduate school must also be demonstrated. The College of Nursing will validate previous coursework and may award up to 27 credits for prior learning.
Although a bridge program to the M.S.N. degree, students are admitted to the undergraduate R.N. to B.S.N. program. To reduce the program length, up to 12 credits can be dually applied toward both the B.S.N. and M.S.N. degree program requirements.
Refer to the official undergraduate catalog to view specific program requirements and curriculum information. Prospective students are also encouraged to schedule a phone or face-to-face meeting with a nursing advisor to discuss the specifics of this unique program.
Registered Nurses without an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree, or do not meet UCF’s general education requirements, should refer to our A.S. to B.S.N. program.
The Accelerated Second Degree Bachelor of Science (B.S.N.) program is designed for students who already have a non-nursing bachelor’s degree or higher and now aim to become nurses.
As a full-time, “lock-step” program, it takes four consecutive semesters to complete. Students are admitted as a “cohort” (or class). The cohort progresses through the program together and will graduate together. Admission is limited and occurs each summer on UCF’s Orlando campus.

The post-baccalaureate D.N.P. track allows students with a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing to enter directly into a clinical doctorate program—the new national standard for advanced practice nursing. The D.N.P. curriculum prepares nurses at the highest level of practice for the current health care environment. Our post-baccalaureate D.N.P. program is offered in three advanced practice specialty tracks: family nurse practitioner, adult-gerontology nurse practitioner, or adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist.
Students in this program will earn a M.S.N. degree or certificate along the way. This will allow them to take the required certification exams, become licensed as nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists, and begin working in the role before completing the remaining courses and clinical hours for the D.N.P. degree.
