BSN Program Details

The School of Nursing has a reputation for offering rigorous graduate and undergraduate nursing education. UMMC students not only participate in hands-on, multidisciplinary clinical training, but also receive classroom instruction that effectively prepares them for successful careers as RNs in a variety of health-care settings.

The Traditional BSN program involves challenging and rewarding learning experiences that reflect the standards of professional nursing practice and prepare graduates for professional leadership careers in a multitude of health-care environments. The School of Nursing faculty and staff are committed to educational excellence, clinical expertise, scholarship, professional development and community service.

Upon completion of the program, students graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) and take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX ®), which grants the Registered Nurse (RN) license. The BSN program prepares students for entrance into graduate study at the master’s-degree level.

The educational programs at The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

MSN Program Details

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Nursing Master of Science degree in nursing (MSN) is the program with your best interests in mind. Here are a few reasons why:

As the first school in the state to offer both the baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs, the School of Nursing has a reputation for offering quality graduate and undergraduate nursing education. In addition, the SON is located on Mississippi's only academic health science campus. UMMC also has the state's only Level 1 Trauma Center, as well as the state's only children's hospital. As such, you will gain not only the best nursing education in the state, but also access to a truly unique learning environment and unlimited resources — all at your fingertips!

Likewise, the graduate program is affiliated with more than 100 hospitals, community health centers, health departments, mental health facilities, private practice and community clinics and schools, thus offering students extensive opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice and research.

The purpose of the MSN program is to prepare nurses for advanced roles in nursing and provide a solid foundation for additional graduate study. Eligible students may be from Mississippi or surrounding states. Out-of-state tuition scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

RN to MSN Program Details

The purpose of the RN-MSN program is to provide associate-degree RNs a flexible program of study that will allow them to continue to meet work and other obligations while pursuing graduate education. Graduates of the RN-MSN program will meet the standards and program outcomes for baccalaureate and master's nursing education and receive the Master of Science degree in nursing (MSN).

RN-MSN course content is spread evenly over seven to nine semesters. This permits students to balance their coursework along with employment and family responsibilities. Likewise, both part-time and full-time plans of study are available.

Eligible students may be from Mississippi or surrounding states. Out-of-state tuition scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

Accelerated BSN Program Details

The Accelerated BSN program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to change career paths in a short amount of time. This particular program takes 15 months to complete and includes a continuous four-semester curriculum. The purpose of the Accelerated BSN program is to prepare nurses at an accelerated pace for entry-level professional practice and provide a solid foundation for graduate study.

The Accelerated BSN program involves challenging and rewarding learning experiences that reflect the standards of professional nursing practice and prepare graduates for professional leadership careers in a multitude of health-care environments. The School of Nursing faculty and staff are committed to educational excellence, clinical expertise, scholarship, professional development and community service.

Students in the Accelerated BSN program integrate with students in the Traditional BSN program for some courses and specific learning activities. A dominant problem-based learning methodology is used for course delivery.

Upon completion of the program, students graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) and take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX ®), which grants the Registered Nurse (RN) license. The BSN program prepares students for entrance into graduate study at the master’s-degree level.
