The RN-BSN Program at The University of Southern Mississippi is an on-line program. This student-centered approach to teaching and learning provides many unique advantages to busy professionals.
The bachelor program of study offers a curriculum based upon courses in the liberal arts and sciences and culminating in upper division nursing courses. The BSN program of study consists of 62 credit hours of non-nursing prerequisite courses and 66 credit hours of upper division nursing courses for a total of 128 credits. The purpose of the baccalaureate program is to prepare the graduate for entry level positions in a variety of health care services. The baccalaureate program of study provides the foundation for graduate study in nursing.
The School of Nursing Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program prepares nurse experts in advanced practice and/or management for leadership in professional nursing practice and patient-centered healthcare delivery. The program broadens the perspective of students by offering an innovative scientific and research based curriculum that prepares graduates for practice in today’s healthcare environment. The education program includes both didactic work and clinical practice experience. Each student completes the graduate-nursing core including evidenced based practice (research and statistics), ethics and role development, and health care policy and finance.
MSN programs require 34-44 credits during a minimum of 15-24 months of full-time study. Graduates will have completed the educational requirements for appropriate certification. Both full-time and part-time study is available.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program is to prepare advanced-practice nurses at the highest professional level of nursing practice and to advance the application of nursing knowledge for the purpose of improving health care to diverse populations.
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Nursing has a collaborative consortium program with Alcorn State University, Delta State University, Mississippi University for Women and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The collaborative share state resources, such as faculty, and utilize classes taught via distance learning technology to each university in the consortium. Two schools in the consortium, The University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Mississippi, award the DNP degree.
