The Vocational Nursing program offered at Xavier College is an eleven-month program and includes 580 hours of theory and 957 hours of nursing skills laboratory and clinical practice. Theory classes are always held on evenings from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm.Clinical practice is primarily on days (7 am-3:30pm) with a few pre-scheduled evening rotations. Evening hours begin at 3:00pm and finish as late as 11:30pm. Beginning on the fifth month of the program, clinical practice includes Saturday rotations. Our board-approved clinical sites are: San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Golden Living Center, Good Samaritan Rehabilitation and Care Center, Wagner Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Chateau Convalescent Hospital in Stockton.
Xavier College faculty members and clinical instructors are active in the practice of nursing in various healthcare agencies. To ensure close attention to student’s educational needs during clinical practice, a ratio of one instructor for every fifteen students is maintained at all times.
Successful completion of the program enables the graduate to take the licensing examination to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
