The Master of Science in Nursing: Direct Entry as Second Degree: MIDAS program, is designed for mature, goal-directed persons who have a bachelor degree in a discipline other than nursing who wish to be a licensed registered nurse (RN). The MIDAS program is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
The 20 month MIDAS program (two academic years with a summer in between) is a full-time program of study. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is awarded the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and is eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Exam-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
The Xavier MIDAS program is unique in that it imbeds the new clinical nurse leader (CNL) role. The MIDAS graduate, after obtaining RN licensure, is eligible to sit for the clinical nurse leader certification examination. The clinical nurse leader is an generalist clinician with education at the master's degree level who delivers nursing care at the point of care. The CNL role is a national initiative developed in 2004 by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to address fragmentation in health care delivery. It is a proactive, integrative and comprehensive role that assists direct care providers in bringing the best of health care science and practice to the point of care.
